What is Geothermal Energy?

Wind energy is energy that is generated by the wind. The wind is used to turn turbines, which generate electricity. Wind energy is considered a renewable energy source because the wind is continually produced by the sun's heating of the earth.

Cost

When it comes to cost, wind energy is cheaper than geothermal energy. According to the US Energy Information Administration, the average cost of geothermal energy is approximately 8.4 cents per kilowatt-hour, while the average cost of wind energy is approximately 7 cents per kilowatt-hour.

Efficiency

Geothermal energy is more efficient than wind energy. Geothermal power plants can operate at a capacity factor of up to 90%, which is significantly higher than the capacity factor of wind turbines, which is typically around 30%.

Availability

When it comes to availability, both geothermal and wind energy sources are not available everywhere. Geothermal energy is only available in areas where there is hot rock close to the earth's surface, which is mainly found in the western United States. Wind energy, on the other hand, is available in many parts of the world but is most effective in areas with strong, consistent winds.

Environmental Impact

Both geothermal and wind energy have a relatively low environmental impact.
